In the awesome-styled form of the Tribute, Catalinbread pay homage to one of their earliest designs: the VariOboost. Simply put, this American-made stompbox is a seriously powerful tone-shaping tool, packing massive headroom and deeply expressive drive. The all-analogue circuit has been loaded with a 1-band parametric EQ for accurate tone-tweaks, while the drive-control can be used to adjust two parameters at the same time: clean blend and overdrive gain. Here, dialling down the drive gets you buffered cleans along with a subtle treble filter while going full throttle gets you maximum gain. Needless to say, all of the settings in between are just as juicy.

The Catalinbread Tribute lets you any honour any legend and helps you shape anything from forceful chords to lilting leads, whether you're into the instantly recognisable sound of Mark Knopfler or the out-of-phase sounds that bring Peter Green to mind. Topped off with tone, frequency and volume controls, this high-tier bit of kit can make humbuckers sound like single-coil pickups and vice versa, making it a helluva valuable addition to any pedalboard.
